Description
San Francisco: Tedium House Publications, 2004. First edition. Paperback. Near Fine. Complete run in 18 issues with all music (first 7"s starting with #4, then CD compilations), plus book Bananafish Special (compiling the first four issues with a CD), plus an issue of the related zine Dump. Stapled wraps in two formats. Near Fine overall with toning to wraps of issues #1, #4 and #5; a little wrinkling to wraps of #18. Light wear to records and discs. Quite rare in commerce and institutionally, a few scattered issues found in OCLC, mostly later issues. A complete run of a long-running San Francisco 'zine focusing on music with no commercial potential, either unclassifiable genre-wise or "noise," with some outre jazz or unusual indie rock groups (such as Sun City Girls, Boredoms, Caroliner, Solid Eye, Royal Trux, Keiji Haino, Dead C., or TFUL282) initially included. Later issues dropped the rock entirely. Rather than reviewing the music with the high-seriousness of The Wire or the hype of a typical fanzine, Bananafish had off-kilter, semi-nonsensical in-jokes in lieu of starred reviews. The artists it profiled tended to be acquired tastes even for hardened longtime outsider music fans-- artists like, say, Volvox or Caroliner, whose overall sound and aesthetic are nearly impossible to explain. Bananafish letters columns consisted of Found magazine-style nonsense. Interviews with musicians could be written by the musicians themselves, or be comics or collages by them instead. More than other magazines at the time, Bananafish captured the devil-may-care attitude of the small noise scene it documented. And, best of all, it knew when to quit-- just about at the time when noise was showing the tiniest glimmer of commercial potential in the early oughts.

Description
[N.p., possibly Brownsville, Tx, 1916. Very good.. [1],11pp. Original tan printed wrappers, stapled. Wrappers soiled, partially split along spine, penciled ownership signature on front cover. Light creasing, occasional minor foxing to text. An unrecorded collection of poetry by First Sergeant Merritt H. Fuson of the 5th Nebraska Infantry, capturing military life during the U.S.-Mexico Border War in 1916-1917. Sergeant Fuson's poems begin with "A Rookie's Prayer" and generally describe the incessant drilling and preparations for battle in southern Texas. One of the poems was given to Fuson before he left home and one other poem is credited to a "Minnesota artilleryman, name unknown," but the remainder of the poems appear to be authored by Fuson himself. Fuson's poem "War Is Hell" particularly encapsulates the difficulties of military camp life during his service, but does not capture the horrors of war which Fuson apparently never experienced. Fuson does express his desire to return home to Nebraska in at least two poems, and his homesickness comes through in others in passages such as "Sing a song of Texas, Drill and sweat and dig, One Nebraska soldier, Dirty as a pig." The 5th Nebraska Infantry had a short and uneventful stay in Llano Grande outside Mercedes in the McAllen-Brownsville region of south Texas. They arrived in July 1916 and drilled and camped until returning to Nebraska in February 1917. An interesting collection of wartime poetry by a young Nebraska man serving in the Texas-Mexico borderlands. No copies in OCLC, auction records, or any other sources we consulted.

Description
Atlanta, GA: Nexus Press, 1985. First edition, regular issue. As the colophon states: “Bobby (was) imaged on an Apple Macintosh computer. The basic composition of each page triplicated and modified for three color separation. Each modification printed out by an Apple image-writer for making negatives. Bobby printed offset in magenta, cyan, and yellow by Nexus Press . . . Michael Goodman, director, Clifton Meador, assistant director.” There were 1000 copies printed on Mohawk Superfine paper, although the scarcity of Bobby in any form certainly suggests that the entire intended edition may not have been completed, or not entirely distributed, perhaps owing to its very personal character. A very fine copy. Small folio, illustrated, original pictorial wrappers. A very fine copy.
