Save for bump to lower margin, a near fine copy; remarkably bright.
Description
Syracuse, NY: Everson Museum of Art, 1973. Save for bump to lower margin, a near fine copy; remarkably bright.. First Edition. Quarto. A brilliant artist's catalogue from Sturtevant (i.e. Elaine Frances Horan), published on the occasion of her first museum show in the United States (Everson Museum of Art, Nov. 16 - Dec. 12, 1973). Sturtevant's conceit for the catalogue, realized by Judson Rosebush, was to simulate poor xerographic copies of her exhibited appropriations of Warhol, Beuys, and Duchamp. According to the Everson's Director James Harithas, "the works in the show were not copies; the works in the catalogue were." This copy of the catalogue later INSCRIBED by Sturtevant—using her given name—to one of the curators she worked with following her retreat from the artworld in the 1970s; a remarkable inscription given that she famously avoided references to her real-life persona.

Description
WAN LI (1916-2015). Wan served as 4th Vice Premier of the State Council (1893-1988) and 5th Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress (1988-1993). He was one of the "Eight Immortals" of the Chinese Communist Party, elders with revolutionary experience who were called upon to make decisions after Deng Xiaoping became leader in 1978. LI PENG (1928-2019). Li served as 4th Premier of China (1988-1998), during which he acquired the name Butcher of Beijing for his hardline stance during the Tiananmen Square Massacre. DS. 4 pgs. 6x 8 . August 30, 1990. Beijing, China. A document signed by Li Peng and Wan Li. They both signed in Chinese characters on the front cover of the program titled Welcome to the Grand Opening of the China World Trade Center August 30, 1990. The inner leaf of the programs details the programs, including performers and speakers, and the Ribbon Cutting by Li and Wan. The China World Trade Center began construction in 1985 but was not completed until 2010. It is the largest building complex in Beijing, consisting of hotels, shopping malls, offices, apartments, convention rooms, and an exhibition hall. Signatures by both individuals are quite scarce, and to have them together is even rarer. The program is on heavy stock paper and in very fine condition.

However, the number line does not start with "1" and the Caldecott medal sticker is affixed to the dust jacket, so this is likely a later printing as the Caldecott medal is awarded at the beginning of the year following the publication of the book. This copy is warmly inscribed by Zelinsky to a reader "who loves romance and fairy tales - with pleasure" followed by his signature. The jacket describes the book as drawing on elements from early French and Italian sources as well as from the Grimms. In this book the esteemed and much awarded illustrator Zelinsky selected a setting drawn from the formal beauty of Italian Renaissance art to create his magnificent illustrations. Bound in glossy illustrated paper boards with a pictorial dust jacket depicting Rapunzel in her tower. The book and dust jacket are in near fine condition. Measures 9.5 x 12.5 inches. Unpaginated [ 32 pages = 3 page afterword by Zelinsky. CHILD/103023.

Very Good in Good+ dj
Description
New York: The Macaulay Company. Very Good in Good+ dj. (c.1934). Later Printing?. Hardcover. [light shelfwear to bottom of book, very slight deterioration of cloth at spine extremities; jacket shows some edgewear, a couple of tiny closed tears, moderate fading to spine, light soiling to rear panel]. Circus novel about "the nonchalant Mario Verona, greatest living king of the flying trapeze, [who] rose from an obscure continental performer to become the spoiled darling of America's big top," and the two women who loved him: "the famous Mavis Merton, tragic Queen of the Air, [and] Mitzi, "another aerialist, young, vivacious, loyal, and gallant." Although the jacket blurb touts the book's realistic depiction of the circus milieu, an unnamed critic for Variety mocked the publisher's claims that the author had actually traveled with a circus, noting that "any story which has a gymnast doing three forward triples and two double backs in the course of a seven minute turn is far from authentic." (Well, yeah!) .
