Description
1937 9" x 7" Type 1 black and white photo. Photo of New York Giant infielders (L to R) Sam Leslie, Johnny McCarthy, Burgess Whitehead, Dick Bartell, and Mel Ott standing in front of a dugout. Fine photo, with just a touch of rippling. Overall, a lovely photograph. In 1937, the New York Giants won the National League pennant, but ultimately lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series, four games to one. Mel Ott was a Hall of Fame right fielder who spent his entire playing career with the New York Giants (1926 - 1947). He was selected to 12 All-Stars games and was a 6x NL home run leader. Notably, he led the Giants in home run hitting for 18 consecutive seasons (1928 - 1945), which still stands as a record today, and was the third player to join the 500 home run club after Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx. This photo also features 2x All-Stars Dick Bartell (1933, 1937) and Burgess Whitehead (1935, 1937). . Photograph.
