Blue cloth-backed boards in the original and very scarce dustwrapper with the name and title printed on the front panel and spine along with the remnants of a cellophane dustwrapper, likely not originally issued with the book but which has been on it for a long time. Description
Venice: Giovanni Battista Albrizzi, 1750. unbound. Map. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 13" x 16.75". This exquisite map of northern Italy depicts the region around Lake Garda and Lake Iseo, published circa 1740. It features pictorial depictions of mountains, forts, and cathedrals. Cities, towns, and rivers are also labeled. The title cartouche in the upper right shows a pastoral scene with beautiful mountains in the background. The map is in excellent condition. Some scattered spots, otherwise clean and bright. Giovanni Battista Albrizzi (1698-1777) was a prominent Venetian publisher of books and maps. He inherited his business from his father and was part of a family active in publishing and bookselling in Venice for 150 years. In addition, he edited a weekly bulletin, Novelle della Repubblica delle Lettere, which reviewed and commented on books published throughout Europe. This elegant map demonstrates Albrizzi's skill and eye for culture.
