Description
PATTON PAINT Co. Patton's Sun-proof Paint. 56 pp. Profusely illustrated and with 6 pages containing a total of 116 tipped-in colour samples. Oblong 4to, 205 x 275 mm, publisher's illustrated wrappers. Pittsburgh: Patton Paint Co., n.d. A fine copy of a classic example of the type of trade catalogue which American paint companies began to issue at the end of the nineteenth century. The catalogues would usually contain paint samples accompanied by plates showing what houses would look like if their paints were used. They were presumable not published in large quantities and were heavily used, because they all now tend to be extremely rare. This catalogue is not listed on OCLC, nor is any similar one from the Patton company.

Description
Tyrnavia: Typis Academicis So. Jesu, 1752. Title in red and black, beautiful woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces. Contemporary tree calf, sprinkled edges; interior fine, small stamp on verso of title. Bound with a short theological treatise. A rare and important treatise on causes of and remedies for some of the more important personal problems of the time. After a short tract dealing with one's inner weaknesses in general, Tilkowski proceeds to detail specific maladies such as hypocrisy, ingratitude, avarice and lying, and lays out the means by which one can overcome these particular problems. A very popular work, first published in 1676 (De malo, malique causis et remediis), the book was way ahead of it's time, a type of self-help compendium for the morally ill. Tilkowski (1625-95), a Jesuit, was a prodigious writer on subjects including theology, mathematics, poetry and philosophy. No doubt had he lived in this time he would have had his own television talk show. No copies located outside of eastern Europe.

Hinges tender. Binding remains sound. Occasional foxing and soiling to pages throughout, else unmarked. Illustrated in tissue-guarded frontispiece and two plates.
