London: by Richard Bentley; 1838. 8" x 5," 317 pps. (vol I), 361 pps. (vol II). First edition, second print of John Lloyd Stephen's popular travel account in Egypt and Syria. Stephen's was an American traveller and archaeologist, (1805-1852). In 1834, he traveled to Egypt and Syria. On his return to New York he published in 1837 (under the name of George Stephens) Incidents of Travel in Egypt, Arabia Petraea, and the Holy Land. The bindings are fairly tight on both books with some foxing present on pages; surface soiling on the boards with slight rubbing to the spines. Overall in good condition.

A series of 21 extracted papers (some with individual fly titles) from various mathematical journals all written by Glaisher and then bound with a separately printed general title page and short introduction. He was at one time President of the London Mathematical Society, Secretary of the Royal Astronomical Society etc. The volume offered here appears to be some kind of Festschrift for the young, gifted mathematician, memorializing his work on a specific subject.
