Description
London: Jonathan Cape, 1965 First edition, first impression, first issue, second state (as usual) with "swop" on p. 57, line 12, in Gilbert's Binding A. Publisher's black cloth, lettered in gilt to spine, green patterned endpapers; in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Richard Chopping, featuring a wraparound illustration of a golden gun with an ivory butt-plate, a snake's skull, green leaves, two flies, and four golden bullets arranged in an "M" shape. Very good book, with a few tiny dots of white paint to bottom of front board, lightly bumped upper corners, a touch of creasing to head of spine, light spotting to top edge of text block, and a crease to top corner of p. 35; very good clipped dust jacket, with some wear to spine ends, light toning and soiling to spine, a few tiny white dots to lower portion of front panel, and light spotting to panels. Overall, a sturdy, pleasing copy. Gilbert A13a (1.2). The Man with the Golden Gun involves one of 007's most seemingly impossible missions. M sends him to Jamaica to kill "Pistols" Scaramanga, known for his weapon of choice- a gold plated Colt .45 loaded with bullets made of solid gold. An assassin trained by the KGB, Scaramanga has blown through a trail of M16 agents and has a bullet etched with the number 007. While many have hypothesized that the character of James Bond is Fleming's fictional representation of himself, it is Scaramanga that bears unusual similarity to Fleming; both are retired intelligence agents living in Jamaican bungalows. Fleming wrote all of his James Bond novels from his Goldeneye home in Jamaica, including The Man with the Golden Gun, which was published posthumously.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included.
