Boston: Little, Brown and Co, 1953. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. Original black cloth with gilt spine title and decoration, edges of dust jacket with some tears and otherwise worn; interior excellent. First edition, first printing. Featuring two of Salinger’s most famous short stories, A perfect day for bananafish, his first appearance of the fictional Glass family, and For Esmé – with love and squalor, the minor masterpiece telling of a World War II love story. Each of the stories had originally been printed between 1948-1953. Salinger (1919-2010) has remained one of America’s most mysterious authors. Known for his widely-acclaimed novel The catcher in the rye, Salinger became a famous recluse following Nine stories’ publication. After remaining fairly hidden since his final television interview in 1980, he emerged at the forefront of his now famed copyright infringement lawsuit in 2009.

Description
Vasa Order of America, n.d. [ca. 1971]. Octavo, blue cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, 205 pp. Very Good, with light foxing (age darkened spotting) to endpapers. From Introduction: Rather than writing the history of the Vasa Order as novel of general public interest, it has been compiled as a step by step presentation of the 75 years of evolution of the organization. It is felt, that this approach will be of greater value in creating a fairly complete picture of what the Vasa Order is, ad what has transpired since the original concept. A lot of detailed data has been included to serve as reference and guide for future development of the Vasa Order, and as a means of creating interest in, and obtaining better knowledge of the different areas of the organization. It is hoped that it will stimulate visits and closer contacts among districts and individual lodges. It should also give the reader a deeper feeling for the tremendous amount of work, which has gone into the shaping of the Vasa Order, and how the organization has been able to adapt to the various conditions which have taken place since its origination and create a sense of pride among the members belonging to Vasa. Most of the information for the historical review has been obtained from the Grand Lodge Convention minutes, some from the 50 year history published in 1946 and some through correspondence with District Secretaries and other members of the various District Lodges. The review of District Minnesota No. 7 as published in the 27th Grand Lodge Convention booklet was used because it was quite complete and up to date.
