Description
The Bird Press, 2012. First edition. Dennerline, Thorsten. Edition of 15 copies with two artists’ proofs. The exquisite binding by Barry Spence cuts no corners, with details like two-color hand sewn end bands and hand worked wooden board covers of quarter sawn oak. The pages are sewn onto hemp cords two of which are inset into the text block to create an unexpected asymmetrical detail in the spine. The hemp cords are exposed on the covers to reveal the flowerlike form that is normally covered with cloth or leather. "This project involves many years of careful work photographing, printing, drawing and printing, writing and then printing again. It began in 2002, when I started photographing insects from the collection of the Entomology labs at the University of Massachusetts. At the time, I was captivated by the idea of looking closely at these beautiful specimens and their death silence created by the wounds of the display pins. It then traveled to Illinois, where I, after much editing, printed the photos using archival inks and then further responded to them with three drawing layers of lithography. The collaborative aspect happened in New Hampshire at the MacDowell Colony where Brendan was introduced the images. He responded with the 94-part poem that is printed upon the handmade paper sheets with Univers type from Wild Carrot Letterpress in Massachusetts.

Description
[New York?, 1824. 12pp, disbound with some loosening and light wear. Good+ to Very Good. The Memorial is "Addressed to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in opposition to a petition of 'the Merchants, Traders, and other Citizens of the city of New-York,' that Congress impose a duty of 10 percent upon sales at auction. Includes statistics dated through Dec. 31, 1823. Signed at end: M. Hoffman, Son & Pell, J. & P. Hone & Co. [and others]" [OCLC]. Merchants were concerned about what they regarded as "the paralizing influence of the auction system." They opposed auctioneers' disruption of their retail markets; auctioneers, on the other hand, argued that they contributed to market efficiency and hence the public good. OCLC 4110356 [4]. Description
United States, 1950. Good. Water staining, toning, short tears.. A charming school cartography project signed at he bottom by "Tommy Whipple", aged 8 or 9. The project depicts the voyage of maritime explorer Jacques Cartier, the first European to map the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The student drew the map with pencil, then went over it with black ink and watercolor. Components included and labeled in the project: continents and countries; a compass rose; the Equator; the Atlantic Ocean; Cartier's journey, with his destination; and the North Pole. Measures approx. 18" by 13". Has sadly not been graded by the teacher. The perspective on the map is terrific from the eyes of a young person.
