Description
N.p.: N.p., 1982. Vintage album with approximately 300 reference photographs, a mix of black-and-white and color, from the 1982 horror film. Included with the album are four contact sheets (presenting approximately 120 images), one loose black-and-white reference photograph, and four negative strips housed in individual sleeves, all housed in a photography developer envelope. Single manuscript ink annotation on the front of the album, noting the film title. From the estate of cinematographer John McCoy. Although the balance of the photographs were apparently taken for continuity and set documentation, multiple pages near the end of the album capture cast and crew members on the set. These photographs show crew members setting up scenery and relaxing, actors getting their makeup touched up, playfully posing with props (including quite a few humorous shots with a severed head) between takes, and several large group shots, ostensibly taken on the last day of filming. A Z-budget thriller about a troubled woman who experiences psychic hallucinations of brutal decapitations after moving to a new house with her emotionally distant husband, and begins to suspect the murders are visions of her own future. Photographs, negatives, and contact sheets varying sizes, most between 10 x 8 inches and 5 x 7 inches. Generally Near Fine. Album Very Good plus overall. Thrower, Nightmare USA.

Description
Hollywood, 1940. First draft typescript (ribbon copy on Fidelity onion skin paper). 84 pages. Brad-fastened into textured paper covers from The Orsatti Agency, with typed cover label. Screen adaptation of the popular 1920 play by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood, which itself was adapted from her 1908 classic mystery "The Circular Staircase". A silent version had been produced in 1926, and a 1930 version was entitled "The Bat Whispers" served as an inspiration to Bob Kane in the creation of Batman. James Roosevelt, son of the President, who had no experience in motion pictures, set up a production company in late 1939 and hired the Perelmans to write this first film he wanted to produce. They began work on January 29 and by February 26, when the picture (along with Roosevelt's entire plan to produce feature films) was abandoned, they had written 108 pages. (Cf. S.J. Perelman letter to Augustus Goetz, Jan. 27 and Feb. 26, 1940, published in Don't Tread On Me.). A comparison with the published play shows that action in our typescript corresponds very roughly to acts one and two. As far as we can tell, this is the only surviving relic of what might have been an interesting dramatic version.

Description
London: Printed for the author, 1733; London: Printed for Weaver Bickerton, 1732. Early [First?] Edition of the first work; Second Edition (with additions) of the second work (published in same year as the first edition). 191 x 127 mm. (7 1/2 x 5"). viii, 400 pp.; iv, 5-171 pp., [5] pp. (ads). Two separately published works bound in one.. Pleasing recent retrospective half calf over marbled boards, raised bands, spine with red morocco label, speckled edges. Paper repairs to title page and pp. iii and 151 of first work, no doubt to remove library stamps. Perkins 557, 562. ◆A few quires of the first work with faint dampstain in the upper half of the fore margin (not affecting the text), light soiling to "Chiltern" title page, isolated minor browning in the first work, otherwise quite a fine, fresh, clean copy with only trivial imperfections internally, and in an unworn sympathetic binding. This volume contains two important 18th century English works dealing in a direct, specific way with land management, soil amelioration, and animal husbandry. William Ellis (d. 1758) was a self-described "plain farmer," whose second book "The Practical Farmer" (bound last in our volume) was an immediate success, going into three editions in its first year. Divided into nine chapters, it covers topics that clearly were of interest to the contemporaneous audience, from "increasing crops of pease and beans" to "how to keep pigeons and tame rabbits to advantage." The 14 chapters of the first work in our volume cover a great many headings. But it is slightly more focused than the second in that its various discussions feature two kinds of fields--those found in "the Chiltern," or hilly ground (where soils are diverse and frequently problematic) and those in "the Vale," or lowlands, full of fertile black and "blewish" soils. Ellis' gift lay in his business sense: in Fussell's words, he was among the first agricultural authors to try "to prove the advantages of the methods he propounds by attaching to them the golden measure of their financial profit, a touchstone that reaches everybody." As a result, he found himself very much in demand as a farm management "consultant" to the landed gentry, travelling all over England to proffer his expertise. Always one to capitalize on an opportunity, he supplemented his income by selling seeds and implements to his clients. These enterprises, coupled with his steady production of literature (including the first English book devoted entirely to sheep herding), led him to neglect his own farm in Hertfordshire. As a result, his reputation suffered in the eyes of visitors who expected to see a model of modern farming methods on his own spread, but who found instead outdated equipment and general dilapidation. As Fussell indicates, Ellis was criticized by more serious scholars for his inclusion of picturesque descriptions of the countryside and anecdotes about "gipsies and thieves," but, ironically, this inclusion constitutes one of the major attractions of his work for the modern reader..

[PAPER DOLLS] [ADVERTISING PREMIUM] [JUVENILE]. , The New Home Sewing Machine Co. listed their locations on the front of the paper doll card in Orange, Mass., at 28 Union Square, N.Y., in Boston, Mass., Chicago., St. Louis, Atlanta, GA., Dallas, Tex., and San Francisco, Cal. The premium was given for children to cut out and put together a picture of a woman sewing. The larger of the two premiums (8 ½" x 5") gives a choice of two double-sided doll heads, a young or older woman. The heads could be folded at the crown and inserted in the neck slot of the seated figure at the treadle-style sewing machine. While not dated, the gigot or leg-of-mutton sleeves on the woman's dress and tight bodice with a bustle point to the last part of the 19th century. Printed directions state "(Cut to heavy black line and fold on the dotted lines)." The smaller premium (9 ½" x 3 ½") pictures a rose covered three-story cottage with a peaked roof and the words "Our New Home" on the porch overhang. A small figure of a woman sewing could be placed inside the 3-D home when it was assembled using the printed instructions. The card has a one inch-closed tear with a crease on the left side.
