1980. First Edition. Signed. KING, Martin Luther, Sr. Daddy King. New York: William Morrow, 1980. Octavo, original half russet cloth, original dust jacket. $3200.First edition of the elder King's autobiography, describing his life in the pulpit and the civil rights movement and loss of both his son and his wife to assassin's bullets, inscribed by him ""John Hope II, may God bless you. M.L. King Sr.""""This book is a must for those who seek to understand the source of the inspirations of the civil-rights movement as well as the unique courage which resides in the hearts and souls of black Americans"" (Benjamin Hooks). The recipient of this copy, John Hope II, was a noted civil rights advocate; his father was renowned civil rights activist John Hope, President of Morehouse College from 1909-36. In this biography King describes an encounter with the elder hope when King was hoping to enroll at Morehouse but denied entry due to low test scores. King boldly decided to make his case directly to Hope himself in the president's office, an intimidating encounter that nonetheless earned King entrance to Morehouse, where he eventually earned a degree in Theology in 1931.Minor toning and wear to dust jacket spine. Description
Although missing the year, Rivera's typed letter to Mr. Reginald Poland, Director of The Fine Arts Gallery, San Diego (1925-1950),small folio, dated March 27, from San Francisco, was penned in 1931. Rivera arrived in San Francisco with Frida Kahlo several months earlier in November of 1930 and went to live with Ralph Stackpole, the American sculptor, painter and muralist at 716 Montgomery Street, a locale that acted as a social center for the artistic community in San Francisco. Rivera and Kahlo lived at that address with Stackpole until they left San Francisco in June, several months after Rivera wrote to Poland. Rivera discusses future exhibitions and current work with the possibility of an exhibition in San Diego. "Thank you for your interest... I took the matter up with Mr. Rollins of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and tried to arrange for an exhibition in San Diego. But it was impossible because almost the entire exhibit was loaned...." Rivera then explains that he is sending "aquarelles and drawings" to the Detroit Institute of Fine Art and that he is returning to Mexico to "complete my work in the National Palace in Mexico City" and hopes to arrange for an exhibition in San Diego "in the Fall." Rivera returned to the US to begin work on his acclaimed murals in the Detroit Institute of the Arts, but it was not until 1936, that he finally exhibited in San Diego at the California-Pacific International Exposition.

Description
Paris: I’Imprimerie de Migneret, 1808. FIRST EDITION OF CORVISART’S TRANSLATION FROM THE LATIN. Complete with half-title and errata. Uncut in the original wrappers, re-backed with the original spine label. An absolutely fantastic copy, preserved in a slipcase. First edition of Corvisart's classic translation of one of the great medical masterpieces. The results of Auenbrugger's experiments, with the immediate percussion of the chest as a new diagnostic method, were first published in Vienna in 1761. For nearly fifty years this revolutionary technique attracted little attention, until Corvisart (1755-1821), Napoleon's personal physician, published his translation of the original text. It was through Corvisart's reputation and advocacy that the value of thoracic percussion was universally recognized. Auenbrugger (1722-1809) was a physician at the Spanish Hospital in Vienna. Garrison & Morton, 2672.

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1858. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. With frontispiece plus beautiful 51 illustrations and folding map. Black cloth, author and title in gilt on spine; new endpapers, small waterstain on top edge of pages 48-65, otherwise a clean copy with an ownership inscription that indicates “purchased April 30, 1858.”. First American edition of an incredible journey through Siberia undertaken by the English architect and artist Atkinson (1799-1861). The author traveled nearly forty thousand miles, nearly a third of which he did on horseback. Atkinson provides a vivid account of adventures and misadventures in a frozen and often barren landscape, including numerous close brushes with death from both natural and unnatural causes. He goes into great detail about the populated regions of Siberia, most never visited by Westerners, including the customs and life of its people.

Description
Cambridge, Mass: Harvard University Press, 1968. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Very good/near fine. First edition of The Strength of Government by National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy, inscribed to his landlord.. Octavo, xii, [2], 113pp. White cloth, title stamped in black and red on spine. A first edition, first printing, with no additional printings on the copyright page. Foxing along outer edge of text block, soiling to white cloth, generally clean text block. In the publisher's near fine dust jacket, price-clipped, bright illustrations. Inscribed on the half title: "For Henry & Janet Redmond, Who may not agree with all this, so that they have my apologies in advance for their guilt-by-association in having had the past acknowledged on page x. Mac Bundy. November 20, 1968." In The Strength of Government, former National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy argues that the national government is dangerously weak for the job assigned to it by the American people. He believes the rapid changes in communication and technology place an increased burden on the federal government that it is not equipped to handle. In the view of Bundy, the Executive Branch is dangerously weak, with certain departments being held together by "an administrator of truly exceptional force and skill." McGeorge Bundy served as the National Security Advisor for Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson from 1961-1966. Later in life, he joined Robert McNamara as a member of the "Gang of Four," advising the Executive Branch on nuclear policy. Bundy died in 1996.

Description
Richmond Virginia, 1957. Unbound. Very Good. A collection of 16 newsletters. All items very good or better with tears from opening, folds, and slight edgewear. A small collection of the newsletter *Transit Topics* produced by the Virginia Transit Company of Richmond, Virginia in the 1950s collected by an employee of the company. The Virginia Transit Company was the transit division for Norfolk and Richmond between 1944 and 1973 when it was split into two separate companies for each city. The company originally operated streetcars but by the end of the 1940s was making a switch to motor buses. These newsletters feature a header which reads, "Transit Topics Go By Bus Leave Worries Behind." Some headlines include, "Suggestion for a Pleasant Visit...Why Not Go by Bus?"; "232 Virginia Transit Bus Operators Here Are Honored This Week for Accident-Free Driving Records"; and "Save and Save and Save!!!" The newsletters boast the benefits of public transportation including savings, rides to church, and flexibility. They also let customers know about new schedules, fares, and rerouting. An interesting archive following 1950s public transportation in Virginia.
