Description
Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1941 Book. Very fine. Hardcover. 2 volumes. First edition, first printing of volume I, second printing of volume II. (1941, 1958). Edited by Maurice Garland Fulton. Introduction by Paul Horgan. Large octavos. 9 1/4 x 6 inches. Pp. xvii, 413 + xvii, 396. Portrait, plates, facsimiles, maps (2 folding). Tan cloth. A very fine set with dust jackets (jackets lightly rubbed at extremities, small closed tear to top of volume I). One of the most important groupings of previously unpublished diaries and letters concerning the American Southwest and trade along the Santa Fé Trail. Gregg crossed the plains four times in the 1830's, extending his trade to the cities of interior Mexico. Volume I deals with Southwestern enterprises from 1840-47; volume II deals with Gregg's excursions to Mexico and California, 1847-1850. Excellent introduction by Paul Horgan. [Rittenhouse: 256]..
