Description
LYNDON B. JOHNSON (1908-1973). Lyndon Baines Johnson was the Thirty-Sixth President.JOHN TOWER (1925-1991). Tower was a Senator from Texas from 1961 to 1985. He was the first Republican in that role since Reconstruction.PS. 14 x 17. No date. No place [Washington D. C.] An oversized color photograph inscribed To Senator John G. Tower with best wishes and regards Lyndon B. Johnson on the lower margin. Tower and Johnson had a complicated relationship. In the 1960 Senate election from Texas, Johnson defeated Tower. However, as Johnson was also elected Vice President in that election, Bill Blakely was Johnsons appointed successor. In a special election held in 1961 to fill Johnsons seat, Tower defeated Blakley, and won re-election in 1966, 1972 and 1978. When President Johnson tried to elevate Associate Justice Abe Fortas to Chief Justice, Senator Tower was severely opposed, believing that a lame-duck President should not have the right to change the Supreme Court. Johnsons autograph is on the lower mount and the overall condition is mint. It is professionally framed.

New York: JKW Sports Publications, 1963 Photographs by William N. Jacobellis. First edition, first printing. Signed on front and rear wrappers by fourteen players: Willie Mays (HOF), Whitey Ford (HOF), Stan Musial (HOF), Hank Aaron (HOF), Yogi Berra (HOF), Harmon Killebrew (HOF), Brooks Robinson (HOF), Richie Ashburn (HOF), Warren Spahn (HOF), Maury Wills, Tom Tresh, Jack Sanford, Tommy Davis, and Johnny Podres. Publisher's green, black, and white wrappers illustrated with many portrait photos of standout players; fine, with a small closed tear to bottom edge of front wrapper. With "BAE" hologram authentication sticker to the inside of rear wrapper. Overall, an excellent assortment of Hall of Fame signatures. This 1963 Photo Album moves methodically through each of the MLB teams, featuring portraits and action shots of their entire rosters. Willie Mays played 21 seasons with the Giants, winning a World Series with the team in 1954. His over-the-shoulder catch in that World Series is one of the most iconic moments in sports history. A 24x All-Star and a 12x Gold Glove award winner, He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979 and was voted onto the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. Stan "The Man" Musial is the greatest St. Louis Cardinal of all-time, spending his entire 22-year career with the team (1941 - 1944, 1946-1963), and one of the greatest hitters in MLB history. Early in his career, he helped form a dynasty in St. Louis alongside Enos Slaughter and led the team to three World Series titles in five years (1942, 1944, 1946). Some of his career highlights include 24 All-Star game selections (tied for second all-time), 3 NL MVP awards, and 7 NL batting titles. Famously referred to by Muhammad Ali as "the only man I idolize more than myself," Hank Aaron was one of the greatest baseball players of all time and an important advocate for racial equality. In his 21 seasons with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, he earned an MLB record twenty-five All-Star selections, three Gold Glove awards, an NL MVP award (1957), and a World Series title (1957). In 1974, he broke Babe Ruth's long-standing record for career home runs (714), and finished his career with 755, a number that has only been surpassed by Barry Bonds. Whitey Ford played all sixteen years of his career with the Yankees (1950, 1953-67), and helped them win six World Series. He was a ten-time All-Star and holds numerous Yankees records, including career wins, shutouts, and games started. Additionally, Harmon Killebrew was a 13x All-Star, 6x AL home run leader, and 1969 AL MVP, Warren Spahn was a 17x All-Star pitcher who won the Cy Young award and World Series title in 1957, and Brooks Robinson was a 18x All-Star who won an astounding 16 straight Gold Glove Awards (1960 - 1975) and is generally considered to be the greatest defensive third baseman of all time. . Signed. First Edition. Original Wraps. Fine.

Description
Softcover. Near Fine. Oblong quarto album. Rawhide tied flexible boards with hand painted illustration of a Native American in a canoe, and "Snap Shots" and "Wisconsin Dells" embossed, all on the front board. 86 snapshots, mostly sepia-toned, many with printed decorative border. Various sizes, but mostly between 4.5" x 2.75" and 6" x 3.75". Small chip on the margin of one image, some modest fading, overall very good or better. A seemingly complete and unpillaged family photo album. The album is devoted about equally between outdoor family scenes with the other half devoted to construction of the family's "Devils Bar-B-Q" stone building, including some overlap - family members posing in front of the Bar-B-Q shack. The album shows stone construction, wood framing of floors and interior, an interior shot of the finished counter, as well as several featuring the neon sign, and some of what seem like a later addition to the building, as well as what seems to be an adjunct roadside drinks and ice cream stand. Undated, one picture shows a 1906 Ford, but our guess is that this is considerably later, perhaps circa mid-1920s. A wonderful album illustrating America's preoccupation with road food as the population became more mobile.

Leipzig: Johann Ambrosius Barth, 1895. FIRST EDITION. Complete with half-title and 25 text diagrams. Original cloth-backed marbled boards; in excellent condition. From the libraries of Stillman Drake and E.N. Da C. Andrade, with their bookplates. First edition and surprisingly quite scarce. OCLC locates numerous modern reprinted versions with a very few original editions such as our copy. The focus of the book is Newton’s work in optics. The author provides a detailed description of the state of physical optics up to the point when Newton’s interest propelled him into conducting research in the field. He further explains the underlying concepts of the Opticks, including the various theories in opposition to those taken by Newton, and finally discusses Newton’s transition from work in optics to celestial mechanics. Rosenberger (1845-1899) was a German historian of science. He studied math and science and taught school in Frankfurt. He became famous for his history of physics and this work on the physical thinking of Isaac Newton. According to Babson, Rosenberger’s work is “the best account in German of Newton’s discoveries.” Bernard Cohen considers this as one of the major surveys of the development of physics “to which historians must refer.” Babson, 105; Cohen, Franklin and Newton,1956, p. 114; Westfall, Never at Rest, 1980 (“unsurpassed in Newton biography”).

Jacket edges rubbed with minor loss from corners and spine, owner bookplate on front endpaper, sticker ghost on front jacket flap. 1966 Hard Cover. xvi, 517, [11] pp. Introduction by James Truslow Adams. "The Education of Henry Adams records the struggle of Bostonian Henry Adams (1838-1918), in early old age, to come to terms with the dawning 20th century, so different from the world of his youth. It is also a sharp critique of 19th century educational theory and practice. In 1907, Adams began privately circulating copies of a limited edition printed at his own expense. Commercial publication had to await its author's 1918 death, whereupon it won the 1919 Pulitzer Prize.

Description
New York: St. Martin's, 1979. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 7x5x1. Book club edition. Jacket spine faded, jacket faintly rubbed. 1979 Hard Cover. 188 pp. The case against Harry Charlton was simple and strong. In his role as 'investigative journalist' he was alleged to have gained knowledge of a Top Secret project at the Fenton Laboratory, London, and to have sold this information to a Russian agent. The case rested on three main a conversation overheard by an independent witness; some very incriminating papers found in Charlton's flat; and a large unexplained payment into his bank account. Antony Maitland's clerk had already refused the brief, and it wasn't until an old (or perhaps it would be more accurate to say a very young) friend came into the picture that Maitland was persuaded to change his mind. He still didn't like the case, he doubted Charlton's innocence, and he didn't fancy taking on the security services when his client might, after all, be guilty of treason. Then murder was added to treason. It was obvious that the staff at the laboratory would have to be investigated, particularly those with an intimate knowledge of the project involved.
