Description
Ghost Ranch, New Mexico: np, 1975. Fine. ARTIST’S PROOF, SIGNED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER BUDNIK. A wonderful, evocative photograph of O’Keeffe at 87 years old, taken at her beloved Ghost Ranch, just north of Abiquiú, New Mexico. By March 1975, when this photograph was taken, O’Keeffe had begun to explore pottery as her chief artistic medium. The photographer Budnik powerfully foregrounds the hands that shaped the clay, reminding us of O’Keeffe’s relentless pursuit of art and creativity. At an age where most famous people are photographed looking wise or contemplative, it’s refreshing to see Budnik capturing the joy of O’Keeffe in her later stage of life. The photographer Dan Budnik, whose career ranged from artist portraiture to major documentary work on the Civil Rights Movement, brought to his sitters an unusual mixture of intimacy and formal rigor. His 1975 photographs of O’Keeffe at Ghost Ranch are among the most compelling visual records her in the last years of her life. Gelatin silver print, artist’s proof (noted “AP” by Budnik at bottom left), from an unspecified edition; printed later. Not examined out of frame. Size: 16 x 10.5 in; framed to an overall size of approx. 26 x 23 in. Fine condition.

Publisher's ring-bound cloth. [Cleveland] : Sherwin-Williams Co. As Herbert Mitchell pointed out in "Mitchell's Choice" These massive trade catalogs from the Sherwin-Williams Company were a throw back to the nineteenth century when paint companies issued catalogues with samples of their paints and plates depicting what houses would like like when their paints were used. Like their nineteenth century forebears, they are now very rare, and offer wonderful depictions of contemporary taste. Mitchell's Choice 9.2

Description
1940. MUSSOLINI. Armi d'Italia: le rassegne del Duce alle truppe dell'armata del Po, della seconda e ottava armata. Unpaginated, illustrated throughout with photographs and photomontage. Small folio, 310 x 230 mm, bound in publisher's photographic wrappers, preserved in a new green cloth folding box. Rome: 1940. A fine copy of this typical example of fascist propaganda. While ostensibly promoting the glories of the Italian armed forces, the main focus of attention was Mussolini, who appears in almost every photograph. OCLC lists only 4 copies worldwide, with one in the U.S. at the University of Wisconsin.

Description
Lima / Cleveland, Ohio: [The Conference] / Printed by Wilfred-Gardner Pub. Co, 1927. Very good. 8 ” x 5¾”. Stapled thin card wrappers. Pp. 99. Very good: wrappers faintly soiled and toned at edges; a bit creased throughout with scattered small spots. This is another book of minutes from an annual meeting of the North Ohio Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), the first independent Black denomination in the United States. This book documents the 46th annual session with presiding bishop Joshua H. Jones. Born into slavery, Jones became the first African American elected to the Columbus Board of Education in 1892 and served as president of Wilberforce from 1900 to 1908. Along with detailed minutes of daily conference activities, the book holds names and reports of officers and committees such as the women's Mite Missionary Society, Ministers Wives' Association, “Evangelists” and “Memoirs.” One report covered “race prejudice” (“at times, it seems that the church is making too little headway in the eradication of this hateful and ungodly monster”) and another endorsed prohibition, arguing that “the future for usefulness of so many of the young men and women is now being destroyed because of the intemperate habit.” It notes countless churches, members and donations, and the last few pages hold tables of financial data, with every district, town and pastor in the conference listed. Rich coverage of an Ohio conference of an important African American denomination. We were unable to locate any holdings in OCLC.

Moskva (Moscow): Pravda / Melodiia, 1966. Very good. Nineteen issues - 7/66, 10/66, 12/66, 4/67, 6/67, 2/68, 3/68, 10/68, 6/69, 10/69, 2/70, 6/70, 8/70, 10/70, 3/71, 6/71, 7/71, 8/71, 6/73; pp. [16] + 6, double-sided, 33 1/3 RPM flexi-discs in white and blue in each issue; laminated, pictorial wraps with comb binding and a central hole, running through every page; illustrated with photographs and drawings; one issue, 10/66, with 5 discs only and another, 8/71, with 7 discs (most unusual); some of the issues with the discs detached, but present; mild wear and rubbing to edges of paper and in a few instances - the comb binding starting to detach; one issue with the corners clipped and rounded; overall in very good condition. An iconic publication for almost 30 years, with no analogue in terms of content and format, the music, art, history, and literature journal Horizon was first released in 1964 and ran until 1992, for approximately 350 issues. Published jointly between the State-run Pravda and Melodiia, its pages featured interviews, propaganda articles, and poems, but the real treasures, for which it would be remembered, were the thin, colorful flexi-discs with popular folk and pop music, which would, in later issues, also feature one Western song each by ABBA, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, and so on. In the midst of sweeping cultural deficit and media backout, the opportunity to acquire even a single performance from beyond the Iron Curtain would result in gigantic queues of young people for every new issue. The most famous authors, poets, composers, photographers, and artists would work on the cover art and the content, including Dmitri Shostakovich, Iraklii Andronnikov, and Boris Tchaikovsky. The production of the discs would be initiated by Nikita Khrushchev, who had been inspired by seeing similar ones in the West. The idea behind the records being attached to the spine and the central hole was that they could be folded out and played without being removed. Being as flimsy as they were, the Russian consumers would have to pull a bag of tricks to achieve the best playback, including weighing them down with coins and placing them on top of standard, sturdier records. In 1990, the magazine would adopt the more-standard, A4 format, with the recordings made on audio cassettes, instead of on vinyl. The publication would cease to exist in 1992, due to financial difficulties.

Binding tight and square, text clean and unmarked. 1928 Hard Cover. 333 pp. Blue cloth, orange decorations with titles in relief. A humorous novel by the British author known for his Jeeves and Psmith series. In the quaint village of Rudge-in-the-Vale, a comedic storm brews at Rudge Hall. Lester Carmody, a miserly squire, finds himself embroiled in a family feud and a ludicrous scheme to turn heirlooms into cash. Amidst the chaos, love blossoms for the bashful John Carroll, but winning the heart of Pat Wyvern is no simple task, especially with a lack of spine and a surplus of scheming relatives. "Money for Nothing" is a delightful caper by P.G. Wodehouse, where wit clashes with whimsy, and where every character is a caricature of folly. It's a tale that promises laughter, love, and a dash of larceny - truly, a Wodehouse romp not to be missed.
