New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1863. Hardcover. Very Good. Fifth edition, revised and greatly enlarged. 12mo. 250pp. + ads. Charts and tables. Red cloth stamped in blind, and titled and decorated in gilt. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Boards with pervasive scuffing, spine-lettering dull, else a good and sound copy. Famous abolitionist Horace Bumstead's copy with his penciled ownership note: "Horace Bumstead. Mass. Rifle Club. Feb. 17, 1864." An educator and Congregationalist minister, upon his graduation from Yale with a degree in military science, Bumstead was commissioned as a Major for the 43rd Regiment of Colored Troops, a post he held from April 1864 to December 1865. After the War he began his pursuit of equal education for African-Americans, joining the faculty of Atlanta University, and eventually went on to serve as the school's second president.

New York: Rudolph Schick, 1940. Very Good. Color lithographic chart (32" x 43"). Backed on linen cloth with a black wooden rolling rod stapled along the top and bottom edges, with a mounted printed paper index label identifying 48 features of the heart. The top rod is partly detached with a few associated small tears, else very good with modest toning to the bottom edge. A visually striking classroom anatomy chart presenting a series of cross-sectional views of the human heart.

New York: William Morrow and Company, 1941. First edition. Fine. Hardcover. Thin folio. (40)pp. Orange cloth printed in dark brown on the spine and the upper board. Illustrated endpapers. Illustrated throughout by Wolo in monochrome and occasionally full color. This is a near fine copy with only a trace of wear and soil. The dustwrapper has a couple of short closed marginal tears, else it is in fine condition. It is not price-clipped. This copy inscribed on the reverse of the dustwrapper with a lovely full color prancing pig bearing a purple tulip and signed 'Wolo '41". Beneath the illustration, in Wolo's calligraphic hand, is the inscription: "To Lambie Taylor from Amanda and Sir Archibald and Wolo." Wolo (Baron Wolff von Falkenstein) was a refugee form Nazi Germany who took up residence in San Francisco where he worked for the Chronicle and developed his superb artistic ability.

Webber with five Native American scenes by Alfred Jacob Miller. The title page calls for 25 illustrations but the list of illustrations details 20 plates. This edition notable for being only one of two published works to contain chromo-lithograph illustrations after drawings by Miller.
