Description
Paris: Librairie Honore Champion, 1908. Hardcover. Near fine. Quarto size, 390 pp., in French, with folding maps. This volume comprises a geographic study of the Sinai Peninsula, in Egypt, written by French archaeologist and Egyptologist Raymond Weill; it is a thorough examination of the topography and climate of the region, and their effects on the locality and development of civilisation there, aided by detailed maps throughout. Although it is part of a series, this book is a stand-alone; it is also in a lovely custom binding, as it was probably issued in the original wraps. ___DESCRIPTION: Quarter red leather with marbled paper boards in red with flecks of gilt, the spine with five raised bands, five gilt illustrations of the Star of David, and gilt lettering, top edge gilt, red marbled endpapers, title page with publisher's device in black, various tables and maps in black throughout, three fold-out maps and one fold-out topographical chart, some in black and white and some in colour; quarto size (10" by 6.75"), pagination: [i-vii] viii-ix [x] 1-380. Please note the text is in French. ___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, and the interior is clean and bright; some rubbing to the corners and to the head, tail, and edges of the spine, some age-toning to the outer margins of the pages, and there is a stamp on the verso of the front free endpaper, likely a prior owner's, with the initials "A. J. O."; even with its few flaws, still a lovely work.    ___POSTAGE:  International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
