Lick, Fredericksburg, Pa" throughout. 3/4 Leather with marbled boards and marbled page edges and endpapers. Title-page, pp. 375-380 (Index), pp. 1-374. With 6 engravings (5.5" x 8.4"). Includes several noteworthy contributions relative to the American Colonies: "An Analysis of The British Constitution, in it's genuine purity, from which is deduced the policy and expediency of adopting conciliatory measures with respect to our American Colonies (pp. 70-78, signed HAMPDEN; several texts from addresses in the Assembies in New York, Boston and Virginia (pp. 98 - 106; Continuation of American Affairs including extrracts from the South Carolina Gazette, pp. 138- 144, including the infamous and groundbreaking resolution in the Massachusetts Assembly on July 8, 1769 (attested to by Sam Adams, clerk of the House) that "No laws imposing taxes, and made by any authority in which the people had not their representatives, would be obligatory, etc" (taxation without representation and the presence of a standing army in Boston); an essay in the form of a letter of "The Administration of The Colonies (pp. 164-166, signed Junius Americanus (Arthur Lee) where taxation without benefit is discussed; Continuation of The American Papers pp. 231-239, describing reactions to the British forces camped in Boston under General Gage, signed by Fra. Bernard; a review (pages 295-303) of a book "Letters to the Right Honourable the Earl of Hillsborough, from Governor Bernard, General Gage, and the Honourable His Majesty's Council for The Province of Massachusett's Bay with an Appendix containing divers Proceedings refered to in Said Letters." Much else related to the Colonies. A superb relic, worthy of restoration to the covers and binding.
