The Globe Edition; 7 1/4 x 5; pp. [12], 1-1138, [4]; full, polished, burgundy calf; spine with five low bands, brown label, and lavish gilt decorations; ornate gilt crest of The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh to front board; marbled endpapers and fore-edge; text in two columns; a few small scratches to leather and several very light spots; minor wear to edges and corners; upper margin of back board a bit faded; a few small, rubbed spots to front endpaper (hastily removed bookplate [?]); overall in very good condition. A beautiful copy of the Globe Edition of the Bard's works, it was most probably bound and presented as a gift to a student at one of the schools of The Royal Company of Merchants - a society, dating back to 1260, founded to protect the trading rights of the merchants of the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh.
