Description
London: Richard Bentley, New Burlington Street, 1849. First Edition. 2 vols., 8vo (208 x 132mm), pp. vi, 304; [2], 301, [1]. Publisher’s light russet cloth with decorative designs blocked in blind, gilt spines, printed publisher’s catalog on glazed-paper endpapers. Rubbing and soft bumps to the extremities, bookseller's ticket on the back pastedowns, else a near fine, bright set. Historical romance centered on the last Welsh Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr. More than a conventional costume romance, Hardy's novel participates in the nineteenth-century rediscovery of Welsh history, using the figure of Glynd r to combine historical fiction with antiquarian interest and an early form of cultural nationalism. It belongs not only to the Bentley historical romance tradition but to the broader literary afterlife of Glynd r as a symbol of Welsh resistance and identity.

Description
1915. A richly detailed 1915 yearbook from Evansville High School in Indiana, offering a compelling visual and textual record of Midwestern educational life during the Progressive Era. The book captures a moment of regional pride and post-Reconstruction civic identity through its extensive documentation of student life, athletics, faculty, and community ties. Particularly notable is the wide array of full-page vintage advertisements from local Evansville businesses, offering a material snapshot of regional commerce and visual culture in the early 20th century. 242 pages. Illustrated with black-and-white halftone photographs throughout. Original printed wrappers with decorative Art Nouveau-style border elements. Softcover yearbook. 4to (approx. 11 x 8.5 in.). Photographic spreads highlight the school's sports teams, clubs, faculty, and student portraits, alongside humor sections and editorial content reflecting the character of the graduating class. The boys' basketball team receives special focus, having completed a dominant 15-1 season before advancing to the second round of Indiana's 14-team state tournament-a notable feat in an era when statewide school sports programs were becoming a vehicle for regional identity and masculine competition. The visual emphasis on athleticism and scholastic pride reflects broader national trends of institutionalization and civic engagement through public schooling. Rubbing to covers with edgewear; interior clean. Overall very good. An uncommon and visually rich example of early 20th-century high school yearbooks, particularly valuable for its photographic documentation and vintage advertising.
