Description
New York: C. S. Hammond & Co., 1917-18. Five section map, each section 82 x 57 cm, each section divided into four folding parts mounted on linen backing. The five sections fit together to create a grand cartographic image 168 x 130 cm (51 x 66 inches). Scale 1:316,800 (five miles per inch). Stock toned along folds and edges, yet state of preservation is remarkably good. Sheets published weekly over a five-week period between December 1917 and January 1918, the map shows the state of the battle lines at the end of 1917, including railroads, boundaries, roads, principal wireless stations, waterways, canals, various fortifications, aircraft depots, and cities. Since the sections are mounted on linen, the news coverage on verso of the sheets is not visible.

Description
n.p.: Payson & Clarke Ltd, 1929. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First Edition. Hardcover. Anagrams--the sport of kings! This 1929 game-book challenges you and your friends to arrange the letters in names and phrases to reveal creative and humorous meanings. Take "Eighteenth Amendment," a hot topic in 1929, and turn it into "Men meet gin, then death" or "End the gin; tame the men" or "Meaneth gin met the end." The letters are supplied in perforated squares, at the edge of each page, to arrange and rearrange to make your meanings--all completely unused and preserved as they were when this book was first displayed in store windows in 1929. Along the way, as your enthusiasm for anagrams mounts, so does your knowledge of the "sport" itself, with informational interludes about the history, popularity, and famous practitioners of anagramming, such as King Louis XIII of France, who employed a Royal Anagrammatist, along with Alexander the Great, Galileo, and the ancient Kabalists. As this guide to the great pastime of anagramming beckons, "What's in a name? Much more than you ever imagined. The letters will tell almost every time." 8 5/8" X 6 1/2". 127pp. Presents nicely in protective archival jacket. Blue cloth over boards, with upper board lettered in orange. Rather heavy wear to binding, with sunning, scattered rubbing, and discoloration to boards, spine bleached, and small tears to bumped extremities. Binding is firm and sound. Pages are clean and unmarked, complete and unused, with all perforations intact. OCLC shows four holdings.
