New York: American Sunday-School Union, 1842. Hardcover. Good. frontis, 35p. Original quarterbinding (marbled boards backed in black leather. 15cm. Joints rubbed and front joint splitting at top. Stain in upper right corner on last two-thirds of leaves. Someone has written in pencil on title-page "by Julia Ann H. Sill" but we have been unable to locate such a person or find out anything else about the author.

FIRST EDITION. One of 500 copies. A necessary starting point for any collector of California cookbooks – a union listing of three hundred fifty-nine items published in California from Bartholomew White's Book of Domestic Recipes (Napa City, 1866) through 1930. Blue cloth, gilt-titled on the front panel, with no spine title; we also have seen a copy with the title in gilt at the spine, and no title on the front panel. Fine.
