Description
New York: Andy Warhol Studios, 1985. Near fine.. Original blank sheet of letterhead from the fourth (and final) location of Warhol's famed Factory. In 1981, Warhol purchased the building at 19 East 32nd Street and moved his various operations - art production, INTERVIEW, and even television studio (where he filmed his MTV show) - there. This unused piece of vintage Warhol stationery dates to that period and is an evocative document from the Pop Art great, whose practice was often so clearly a dialogue between art and commerce. Scarce and ephemeral. 11'' x 8.5''. Single broadside sheet of "Andy Warhol Studio" letterhead on Crane paper. Unused. Folded in quarters, with some toning at the folds. Else sharp and clean.

Description
San Francisco: The Occident Printing House, 1889 Book. Fine. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). First one-volume edition, originally published in 3 separate volumes. . Pp. xvi, [13]-543, [1], xiv, v. Index, supplemental index. Original gilt-lettered blue/green cloth. Small spot to rear cover, lower corners just showing, slight general rubbing. A very good copy. Notice slip from the author tipped in after p.303, as issued. This one-volume edition of Shuck's labors gives an historical view of the judiciary system in California by providing numerous detailed biographies including Edward D. Baker, Hall McAllister, John R. Felton, Lorenzo Sawyer, John T. Doyle, Stephen J. Field, Henry E. Highton, S. C. Hastings, David S. Terry, Ogden Hoffman, and a host of others. This copy of Shuck's work includes a Presentation Inscription, Signed by Henry E. Highton to John Swett: "To my excellent friend, John Swett, with kindest regards from, Henry E. Highton. Feb. 21/91." John Swett was a key early educator in California and in 1862 was elected to the post of State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Henry E. Highton (Shuck provides an entire chapter on Highton in this book) was a prominent San Francisco attorney, best known for his brilliant defense in the murder trial of Milton Kalloch, son of San Francisco Mayor Isaac Kalloch. Laid into this copy is a portion of a printed and manuscript document signed by Shuck as Notary Public, 1878. [Cowan: p. 585; Rocq: 17141]..

Description
S. l. (Berkeley): S. n., 1893. First Edition. Very good. Leaflet; single sheet, folded, 8 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. [4]; printed and ruled in black; old, intersecting fold lines; a bit of age-toning and wear to edges; illustrated with a picture of a devil over a coffin and a drawing of a coffin, skull, and bones; in about very good condition. In Dog Latin and English. A long-gone ceremony of UC Berkeley students, the "Burial of Bourdon and Minto" was based on a similar tradition at Yale University. It was held annually from 1878 until 1903 and revolved around freshmen burning their textbook copies of Louis Pierre Marie Bourdon's "Elements of Algebra" and William Minto's "Manual of English Prose Composition." It also featured the ceremonial burrial of the ashes. Over the years, the process became more elaborate and included a mourners' procession and a bonfire. When the festivities began spilling outside the campus, onto residential streets, and more and more often students became injured, the university administration cancelled the ceremony. The current leaflet was the invitation to the event, meant to be passed around among the students. Written mostly in Dog Latin, it also included a poem in English, part of which read: "Oh, dog-eared and mangled Minto, / Oh, Bourdon, our fated foe, / You are lost and gone forever, / Down to Hell's deep pit below."
