[Chicago]: Printed for Private Circulation [Lakeside Press], 1903. First edition. 25 cm; 165 pages. Laid paper. Photogravure frontispiece portrait, 7 photogravure plates, 1 half-tone photographic illustration, and 3 maps. Bound in original blue cloth decorated in gilt. Minor marks on boards, else fine. One of 180 copies only. The only edition of this account of a trek across Siberia in 1882 to retrieve the bodies of De Long and his party from the tragic "Jeanette" expedition. (They carried the bodies to New York City for burial.) Later, Schuetze traveled from St. Petersburg, across Siberia, to the Lena Delta to distribute rewards from the U.S. Government to those who had helped the survivors.
