Description
Moscow: Minist'erstrvo Narodnovo Prosves'cheniya, 1908. First printing. Softcover. vg. Ex-Library. Large 8vo. 175pp., with some b&w in-text illustrations. Beige paper wrappers with black text on front. An inventory catalogue put out by the factory "Sotrudnik Shkol A. K. Zall'skoy" (Colleague of Schools, of A. K. Zall'skaya), that produces "globes, school furniture, educational aids, class equipment, educational games, etc." This official state factory operated under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Enlightenment, and received two gold medals at "The Russian International Fair of Agents for Technical Education," in 1884. The medals on the front page include the profiles of emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II, suggesting that this was company chartered by Alexander III. This 1908-09 edition comes from The Warehouse of Editions of the Ministry of Public Enlightenment, and "this catalogue makes all previous editions null and void." The first page also contains two ink stamps, one from the library of an Alexander's Gymnasium- possibly one of the many military schools that Alexander chartered during his reign. The other ink stamp is from Germany. The company that put out this catalogue owned a number of warehouses and stores, selling their material individually and in bulk to "state schools, public organizations, private schools and individuals." The book contains a notice on rising prices on p. 4, a general statement by Zal'sskaya about the company on pp. 5-6, an extended notice on company policy on pp. 7-12, and a preface on p. 13. The catalogue itself runs on pp. 14-168. The chart format, consistent throughout the catalogue, contains columns titled "no. of content," a short description, "quantity," and "price." At the back of the book is an alphabetized index of content. The catalogue content includes textbooks, stationary equipment, maps, science lab equipment, school furniture, educational games, etc. The illustrations include pictures of some inventory items, such as wall maps, globes, games, and science aids. Two blue markings on bottom page edge, slight staining along the bottom edge of cover, small closed tear on the front outside edge and blue tape with a library number on spine. Cover in very good condition, interior in fine. Book overall in fine condition.
