London: T. Payne, 1775. Second Edition. Quarter Leather. Near fine. The Second Edition of Travels Through The Middle Settlements In North-America. In the Years 1759 and 1760 by Rev. Andrew Burnaby, published in London in 1775.. Octavo.[iii] - xvi, 198pp, [errata]. Three-quarter brown morocco, decorative bands at spine, title in gilt on spine, cloth boards. Stated "Second Edition" on title page. Light finger soiling to title page and errata leaf, internally clean. (Sabin 9359) (Howes B995) Sabin erroneously calls for maps. Includes atmospheric records for 1759 and 1760. An important work on the British Colonies, published shortly before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Reverend Burnaby arrived in Williamsburg in 1759 and spent over a year traveling through the American colonies. In this text, Burnaby describes his meeting with Colonel George Washington at Mount Vernon and writes: "I cannot omit this opportunity of bearing testimony to the gallant and public spirit of this gentleman." The first and second edition of this work were published in London in 1775, with anther copy being published in Dublin the same year. A scarce work.
