The Scientific American was begun in 1845 as a monthly issued periodical. Mo issues featured architectural designs for houses and commercial structures wi appropriate building and design advertisements, but there were several which also focused just on the automobile which we have here. This issue, Vol. CXI no. 1 for January 1, 1916 "Eighteenth Annual Motor Number" includes articles "The Automobile of 1916," a three page feature on "Seeing America and the Lincoln Highway," and "Development in Commercial Vehicle Design; Prominent Features and Tendencies in Present-Day Motor Truck Design." It has a brightl colored chromolithographic cover featuring a pair of race cars barreling down the track. The articles inside are about automobiles, the industry and the newest advancements and features richly illustrated with black-and-white photographs.
