The broadside, clearly aimed to circulate among the throngs of protestors converging upon the Yale campus and surrounding region, called for restraint: "Any violence this weekend will have a direct, immediate, and detrimental effect on the lives of the defendants!" The text asks protestors to consider the possibilities that a) the trial will not be cancelled and charges will not be dismissed; b) the trial may be moved to a less "volatile" place; c) potential jurors may feel antagonized. "In short: If you really want to help Bobby Seale and the New Haven Panthers, if you really want to help the people whose lives are at stake right now, if you really want to live up to your beliefs without jeopardizing their lives...then you must make sure there is no violence this weekend!!"
