A series of thorough guide books in English printed at the Tokyo Tsukiji Type Foundry for travelers from Europe and America, tourists as well as "business men and capitalists" (Preface, vol. I). A newly opened trans-continental passage via Siberian and Manchurian Railways paved the way for this guide book series, which began in 1908 with dispatches of "experts" to Chosen, China, Manchuria, India, and the South Sea Islands to gather information. The guide books are filled with practical information; large folding maps; historical notes; directions from various locations like Australia, North America, and Suez; useful phrases in English, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese; and many illustrations of sites. Fifth volume ex-library with neat markings on spine, library bookplate, stamp on title-page and first page of Preface, and library card at back. Hinge cracked in vol. IV yet a fine set. PROVENANCE: Inscribed in vol. I, "Jan. 23, 1917/ To Roy from Earl, wishing him a very happy birthday/ Oakland, Calif." and with ownership signature on title-page of vol. III.

Description
Hoboken, NJ: The Observer Print, 1903. Original wraps. Very Good. Uncommon "List of Causes in the Hudson County (New Jersey) Courts, September Term, 1903". The booklet begins with a printed list of the "Supreme Court Issues" and then moves on to printed lists of the "Circuit Court Issues", the "Supreme Court Issues for Late Day", the "Circuit Court Issues for Late Day", "Common Pleas Issues", "District Court Appeals" and finally "Justices' Appeals to Court of Common Pleas". (The lists appear on each verso, with a corresponding page of "Remarks" on each recto, and each specific numbered hearing is broken down into "Parties" and "Attorneys"). The booklet is tight and VG- to VG in its perfect-bound, printed wrappers, with light chipping and several small closed tears along the spine ends. A bit of darkening as well at the lower-edges and a number of pages of "Remarks" filled in in light pencil. Still though, a clean, very presentable copy of a fragile, ephemeral item -- and a wonderful piece of New Jersey legal history.

Description
Portland, ME (?): n.p., 1938. Softcover. Very Good. Softcover. This is an astonishing and unique item created by a young girl who obviously idolized famed child star Shirley Temple. This is an opportunity to acquire an unusual and highly collectible homage to the most popular movie star of the 1930s. The creator of this scrapbook, Lillian Lesperance, later Lesperance-Lysengen, modified a huge catalog of wallpaper samples to affix and display her collection of photographs of Shirley, from infancy to 1938, when she was ten years old. Lillian hand-lettered the cover of the catalog, "1938 Shirley Temple Scrap Book." (The only information available about Lillian was a mention of her in his obituary as the wife of Allen Tilford Lysengen, who married Lillian in 1947 and who died in in 1992.). There are probably one thousand individual images of Shirley. They appear to have been primarily taken from newspapers and magazines and are both in color and black and white, with the majority in black and white. The items range from small head shots framing the other pictures on a page to some that almost fill a page. Rather amazingly, there appear to be very few duplicates of the photos included. A few photographs are amateurishly hand-colored. At the end of the scrapbook, after a few blank pages, the compiler of the scrapbook created several pages with pictures of Shirley as a teenager, at her first marriage at the age of seventeen, and an article about Shirley's appointment as the US Ambassador to Ghana in 1974. Laid in the pages is a doll's blue polka dot cape and hat set, and two programs from the Ritz Theatre in Lewiston with the schedule of films being shown from March 17-April 27. Each showing was a double feature, and many included Mickey Mouse, Our Gang, or other short features. The back of the programs have a full color photo of Shirley with her facsimile signature and dated 1938. This fascinating and enormous scrapbook is generally in very good condition. The catalog covers are soiled, chipped, and worn. The scrapbook pages, probably almost 100, are all in very good condition. Measures 14 x 18 x 2 inches. Heavy requiring extra postage. EPHEM/013124.

New York: Simon & Schuster, 2012. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Very Good. 6x1x9. First edition. Ink name and address on front endpaper, ink underlining throughout. 2012 Hard Cover. xvii, 428 pp. "Based on 18 months of reporting, Woodward's 17th book The Price of Politics is an intimate, documented examination of how President Obama and the highest profile Republican and Democratic leaders in the United States Congress attempted to restore the American economy and improve the federal government's fiscal condition over three and one half years. Drawn from memos, contemporaneous meeting notes, emails and in-depth interviews with the central players, The Price of Politics addresses the key issue of the presidential and congressional campaigns: the condition of the American economy and how and why we got there. Providing verbatim, day-by-day, even hour-by-hour accounts, the book shows what really happened, what drove the debates, negotiations and struggles that define, and will continue to define, the American future.
