Description
Krakow: Powściągliwość i Praca, 1945. First edition. Softcover. g+ to vg. Octavo (8 1/8 x 5 7/8"). 24pp. Original illustrated b/w wrappers, with white lettering. In this work, the author - who was a political prisoner in Auschwitz, and one of the few to survive from the establishment of the camp until its liberation - writes about his own experiences, and also gives a general history of the camp. Since its publication in 1945, this book is considered the first Polish post-WWII work about Auschwitz intended for the general public, and includes the first published map of the camp. This book is complete with its two detailed plans on two leaves of Auschwitz (II) and Birkenau, from 1940 and 1944. Text in Polish. Wrappers age-toned. Pages slightly and evenly age-toned throughout. Wrappers with some minor to light rubbing and creasing. Front cover (and interior front cover) with a small stain. Title page with the name of a previous owner in pen. Wrappers in good+, interior in very good condition overall. Scarce. Protected by modern mylar. * Some copies list a different publisher/printer.
