Bookplate of Marcus Crahan (1900-1978), on verso of front board - noted collector of gastronomic literature. Crahan's bookplate was made for him in the 1930s by Hungarian-born designer Franz Geritz (1895-1945). This souvenir/reference volume contains reproductions from a comprehensive menu collection, assembled and shown at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Organized in two parts, the first is devoted to facsimile menus from notable banquets and acclaimed hotels and restaurants - the second part offers recipes inspired by these menus. This presentation copy to "Alford C. Swan, Chef of the Sammarkan Hotel, Santa Barbara California - from Mrs. O.E. Morris, Owner/Mgr." - written on the front free end paper along with stamp: The World's Fair Menu and Recipe Book, No. 600, Original Copy. Interior lightly toned.
