Very good.
Description
[Valley Stream, Long Island]: n.p., 1963. Very good.. Large album documenting the activities of the Sunrise Ski Club in Valley Stream, New York during the 1953 to 1963 seasons. Organized events include a fundraising ball for the Olympic ski team, summer camping, spring picnics, ski outings and competitions, and annual dinners. Organized chronologically, the album's author changes with the election of a new recording secretary each year, exhibiting a new perspective and style every season. Captions give context to the events, often written with humor, and some secretaries included narrative accounts to accompany photographs. Newspaper clippings and ephemera such as event invitations round out the album. A thorough document of midcentury recreation. Scrapbook album measuring 15.5" x 11.25" aprox. in rustic, likely homemade, hinged wood boards, scalloped at edges and bound with leather cord. Title reading "Sunrise Ski Club" applied to front cover in wooden lettering. 120 pages; with approximately 250 black and white photographs corner mounted, usually 3.5" x 4.75" approx., with several larger. Most pages titled by event and images hand-captioned with several simple ski-related drawings. several pages of newspaper clippings, club announcement sheets, officer lists, event tickets, and other ephemera. Title lettering has perished except the "Sunrise" portion, leaving adhesive residue. Boards suffer small chips at corners. Pages generally chipped at edges, some photographs loose from the corner mounts but images generally fine. Very good overall.
