Description
Washington, DC: [n.p.], 1917. Very Good. Washington, DC: [n.p.], 1917. Two-page autographed letter signed on single sheet of Henry P. Blair's (son of the letter's author) office stationery. Light edgewear and toning; mail folds. Very Good. Henry W. Blair served as Senator from New Hampshire and here urges Brisbane to come interview him regarding Suffrage for the District of Columbia, a cause for which which he claims to have proposed a constitutional amendment in 1887. Blair says, "I look upon it as the leading domestic political issue now pending in the affairs of this country." Blair ties DC's struggle with the United States upcoming entry into World War I, "that glorious democracy now preparing to shed its last drop of blood - including that of said District - to free the world." Blair also requests Brisbane come to his son's office for the interview as he has difficulty moving around "thanks to Confederate friends who have me some attention in the Civil War." While serving with the New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry Blair was twice wounded.
