Sofiia Parfanovych (1898 - 1968) was a Ukrainian author, educator, gynecologist, public figure, the first female student of the medical faculty of the University of Lviv, and member of the Vidrodzhennia Temperance Society of Ukraine. She wrote numerous works on hygiene, nutrition, temperance, and pediatrics, as well as several collections of fictional short stories and novels. She left Ukraine with her family in 1944, emigrating first to Austria, then Germany, and finally to the US in 1949. She practiced gynecology, until a progressive eye disease forced her to retire and focus solely on writing. Her current book on first aid and emergency medical care was published at a DP (displaced persons) camp in Germany.
