Harvard Arnason to his wife Elinor, to whom he dedicated his book, "With all my love" upper corner ffe, The first three chapters are replete with Arnason's line edits and marginalia, as if he were editing the book for an abridged version. His efforts stop abruptly at the end of chapter three; the book, still in print, is in its seventh edition, and remains the standard textbook on modern period of art.

New London, Hartford, Portsmouth, and New Haven printings also issued. It has a Table of roads and distances from Boston, "with the most noted Houses of Entertainment on the Roads."
