With gilt border and lettering. Rear cover printed with an advertisement for Colgate talcum powder. 10 booklets, 5 inches by 3 inches. 8 pp. each. . With 4 black-and-white illustrations in each booklet to accompany the rhymes. Some creasing to pages and wrappers and some toning throughout the set. Open tear at fore-edge of page 3 in the Little Miss Muffet booklet (with no text or images affected). Overall a very good, clean, and attractive set. The Jessie Willcox Smith Mother Goose was first published by Dodd, Mead and Company in 1914. There are no previous editions of these Toybooks, which were published in a set of twelve. The titles included here are Little Miss Muffet Sat on a Tuffet; Rain, Rain Go Away; Little Bo-peep; Mary, Mary Quite Contrary; Ring a-round a Rosie; See Saw, Margery Daw; Curly Locks, Curly Locks, Wilt Thou Be Mine?; One Foot Up, the other Foot Down; Hush-a-bye-Baby On the Tree Top; and Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill. The missing title is There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.

Image has strong contrasts. Haynes number and title printed on the reverse. Very good. Haynes shop hangers at the reverse top corners. View of Top Notch Peak reflected in the waters of Sylvan Lake. Jack Ellis Haynes (1884-1962) began working in the family photographic business at a relatively young age and toward the end of 1916 he formally bought out his father's interest in the Yellowstone photography business and was awarded sole right to produce pictorial souvenirs. An accomplished photographer in his own right, Jack operated the park concessions and Saint Paul studios under the name 'J.E. Haynes' and then 'Haynes Inc.' (1937-1945). In 1945 Jack and Isabel moved the base of operations to Bozeman, and established Haynes Studios Inc.

"The Montana Historical Society is pleased to share this sampling of F. Jay Haynes photography through the traveling exhibition 'F. Jay Haynes: Fifty Views.' It displays an exciting blend of historical documents that are also aesthetically pleasing, revealing both the west that Haynes witnessed and his growth as an artist with the camera." Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921) was employed by the Northern Pacific RR in 1875 to take pictures along their route from Minnesota to the West Coast for advertising and promotional purposes. From 1884 through 1915 Haynes operated a lucrative service industry in Yellowstone National Park making and selling souvenir photographs, taking pictures of tour parties, and publishing graphic souvenirs. F. Jay Haynes was known as the "Official Park Photographer.

A pocket-sized guide to exercise by Hartvig Nissen (1857-1924), a Norwegian gymnast who brought Swedish gymnastics and exercise to the United States. He begins the volume by asserting the importance of physical activity to one's happiness, and outlines the strengths of the German and Swedish "systems" of exercise, and how they informed his own. He follows the discussion with examples of exercises. Unlike fitness today, which is heavily reliant on cardio and weight-bearing exercises, Nissen's system focuses almost exclusively on calisthenics. The book provides diagrams illustrating proper posture and positioning, alongside descriptions of each movement. 12mo (5.75" by 4.25"), pp. 31, [1], with in-text illustrations. Stereotyped by Alfred Mudge & Son of Boston. In original publisher's red boards stamped in black.
