Cork: Printed by and for the Author, 1835. From the Bart Auerbach Collection. 8vo. vii, 76 pages. 5 engraved plates. 19th-century red quarter roan, marbled boards (front cover detached, a bit closely trimmed at bottom but without loss). First edition. WITH: A copy of the expanded second edition. London: Printed for the Author, 1837. 8vo. 200 pages, sectional title for Three hundred fifty years retrospection of an old bookseller (Cork, 1835) between page 100 and 101. 10 plates, illustrations in text. Later brown half morocco, marbled boards, top edges gilt, others untrimmed, by Blackwell. The first edition is quite uncommon. Bigmore & Wyman, Bibliography of Printing, p. 77: "It is curious to see a bookseller adopt the absurd plan of noting the contents of the second half of his book by a fresh title. It is an extremely curious and amusing work, and deserves more attention than it has received." Together, 2 volumes.

Description
Paris, 1857. Cloquet, Jules (1790-1883). Autograph letter signed to [Jean-Pierre] Dantan jeune (1800-1869). 1 page plus integral address leaf. Paris, 20 March 1857. 208 x 134 mm. One corner of address leaf torn away (not affecting text), minimal foxing, but very good. [With:] Genty, Maurice. Jules-Germain Cloquet (1790-1883). Les biographies médicales 7, no. 9 (September 1933). 261-276pp. 2 plate leaves. Paris: J.-B. Baillière. 257 x 170 mm. Original printed wrappers. Very good. From physician and anatomist Jules Cloquet, author of Anatomie de l'homme (Garrison-Morton 409), the first anatomical atlas illustrated by lithography. His correspondent was French sculptor Jean-Pierre Dantan, called "le jeune" (to distinguish him from his older brother Antoine-Laurent, also a sculptor), best known for his portrait sculptures and his sculptural caricatures. Dantan's marble bust of Cloquet, done in 1866, is illustrated in Genty's biographical notice of Cloquet, a copy of which accompanies this letter. Cloquet was initially trained as an artist; he entered medical school after working as a wax modeler for the Paris Faculty of Medicine. The letter can be translated in part as follows: "My dear friend, I own a certain number of busts, figurines, medallions in plaster, which time, smoke and most of all handling by servants have blackened . . . I would like to have them bronzed by a man who is skilled and honest. You must be well informed on this subject and I beg you to send me his name and address via a word sent through the post . . ." .

Description
[Berkeley]: [Political Poster Workshop at the University of California, Berkeley], 1970. 23x29.75 inch poster, very good, a couple of minor ink smudges. In the Maggs Bros book "4973: Berkeley Protest Posters 1970," this design is illustrated on page 47. Participants in the Political Poster Workshop practiced the techniques of silkscreened poster production on sheets of used computer printout paper or other random stock. Most of the products of this workshop are scarce, for obvious reasons.
