May 13, 1878. 3 West 21st Street, [New York]. An autograph letter signed John A. Dix. On black-bordered stationery, Dix wrote to several Union Army veterans, including Major General Henry Slocum. He declined an invitation to a meeting of Army of the Potomac alumni. Gentlemen: I regret exceedingly that I cannot accept the invitation you had the kindness to address to me to be present at the annual meeting of the Society of the Army of the Potomac on the 5th of June next. I am respectfully yours, John A. Dix. It is in fine condition with mounting remnants on the right edge of the verso.
