Description
San Francisco: The Bay Area Carpenter [Anonymous rank and file of Carpenters' Local 36], 1938. Ephemera. Small archive includes the five issues of the anonymous rank and file newsletter, “The Bay Area Carpenter,” and the first issue after the title changed to, "Building Trades News," in folded newsletter format [4p. each]. Throughout, newsletters are evenly toned with fold-creases, edges are chipped and frayed, issue no. 2 cover is slightly wrinkled, some minor rubbing throughout, overall in very good condition, but delicate. Present: vol. 1, nos. 1, 2, 4, 6-7 (May-June); and Building Trades News, vol. 1, no. 1 (July). Preceding the first newsletter is an anonymous 8.5x14 inch bulletin titled “Carpenters’ Weekly News Bulletin,” dated April 1, 1938. The bulletin sets the precedent for The Bay Area Carpenter by challenging the same union leaders Dave Ryan and Don Cameron and carrying forth many of the same anonymous dissatisfactions. Letter is evenly toned, middle folding crease, a slight soil spot on the lower left side, otherwise in very good condition. Lastly, there’s an 8.5x11 inch double-sided letter from the union leaders of the Bay Counties District Council of Carpenters expressing disapproval of the anonymous newsletter and its wide circulation in the labor headquarters, while also working to dispel some of the supposed misinformation. Letter is slightly creased and toned, else in very good condition. The Bay Area Carpenter was an anonymous newsletter distributed throughout the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters in San Francisco. It claimed to be the voice of the rank and file members and to clean out the racketeers, but it also carried an ongoing dispute between the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and the CIO.

Description
New York: Simon and Schuster / Golf Digest, 1977. First Edition. First printing. Warmly inscribed on front endpaper: "To Joyce / In appreciation for being one of my very special friends - if you'd only stay home once in a while!," signed, undated but apparently contemporary with publication. Octavo; cloth hardcover, dustjacket, 158pp; illus. Fine copy in crisp, unclipped dustwrapper (priced $7.95 on front flap); trivially worn at edges, still very Near Fine. The recipient is possibly Blalock's contemporary Joyce Kazmierski, a long-time LPGA tour professional who competed head-to-head with Blalock on many occasions. Blalock (b.1945) as the winner of 27 LPGA titles during a long and extremely successful career, and still holds the record for most consecutive cuts by any golfer (259).
