Description
. 1) Walled in This Tomb; Questions Left Unanswered by the Lowell Committee in the Sacco-Vanzetti Case and their Pertinence in Understanding the Conflicts Sweeping the World at This Hour. Boston: Excelsior Press, 1936. 29 pages. (Authors include Malcolm Cowley, John Dos Passos, and others); (2) William Floyd, there is Justice: a Summary of the Sacco-Vanzetti case; New York: Sacco-Vanzetti League, 1927, 21 pages. (3) The Sacco-Vanzetti Case Twenty Years Later. Boston, Excelsior Press, 1947. 12] pages. A very important piece of the continuing concern over the obvious rush to judgment in the Sacco-Vanzetti case which led to their execution on August 21, 1927. Gardner Jackson who was a leader in the early fight to defend Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco from the death sentence was joined by John Dos Passos, Upton Sinclair, Dorothy Parker, Edna St. Vincent Millet, Felix Frankfurter, and a host of others to obtain a retrial. After their execution, he carried on the details of what clearly had been a miscarriage of justice. (4) carbon copy of telegram from Eleanor Roosevelt of July 24, 1947, which answered, "I will gladly sign manifesto and letter". This list of signers printed here on pages [9-12] includes leading scholars, political figures, writers, religious leaders, and such diverse figures as Al Capp, Reinhold Niebuhr, and Lillian Smith, author of "Strange Fruit". This item came out just as HUAC, the Rosenbergs and the Alger Hiss Case was occupying the political landscape. World Cat reports only Duke and the University of Michigan have copies. (5) Justice Denied in Massachusetts--August 22, 1927, 20th anniversary. Sacco-Vanzetti memorial meeting, Boston Common-Parkman Bandstand on Sunday, August 24, 1947-3PM. Broadside. Boston: Socialist Party, 1947. (OCLC records one copy at the Boston Atheneum).

Description
New York: L. Biswurm & Co, 1889. Paperback. Very Good. Paperback. VERY SCARCE. An eclectic collection of writings (mostly poetry) ranging in subject matter from the benefits of religion (prose piece) to fluffy poetry about aunts, flowers, ... and death to a naval battle in Denmark that happened in 1848 (prose) to a prose piece on strikes, somewhat comical letters from a father to his son, and more. Following is an excerpt from "Campaign-Song" dated 1888 - "Flip-flap! Here's a slap, For the good-for-nothing snap, Who would sell his Country's weal for his own benefit, Or his party's dirty rags, Or the boodler's money-bags, Or whatever bait is offer'd by some shuffling hypocrite." Seems relevant despite being nearly 150 years old! Bostelmann was also the author of Schippenbauers Wanderstab. Very good in grey paper wraps. Both wrappers are detached but present. Minor chipping and creasing to wrappers. Stamp to title page. Interior is otherwise clean. 168 pages. Poetry. POE/3123.
