Description
Sunderland, UK: Thomas Reed & Co., n.d. (circa 1924). "There are many ways of rigging a Jury Rudder for small vessels, but up to now there has been no practical system of coping for that with large steamers, and it is to this class that I particularly wish to refer." His system consisted of a raft constructed of materials commonly found aboard a steam ship, assembled by the crew in 6 or 7 hours, then towed from the stern by two lines about 15 fathoms long, which could be tightened or loosened, moving the raft and steering the ship. About fine condition in bright red boards with gold cover lettering (for emergency use?) with a manuscript, a typed, and a printed testimonial laid in.. 24.5 cm. 16 pp. b/w full-page line ills., one folding
