Description
Boston: Watson & Bangs, 1812. Tully, a 42 year old Pennsylvania native, and Englishman John Dalton, 24, were convicted of murdering a seaman and scuttling an American schooner off the West Indies. Tully was hanged in South Boston in December, 1812. Dalton was reprieved at the last minute. Supposedly, 15,000 people gathered to witness the execution. It was certainly a notable event, generating at least half a dozen pamphlets and a broadside. Shortly before he went to the gallows, Tully wrote this 36-page pamphlet, in which he claims to have been framed by the cook. Sabin 97442. McDade, "Annals of Murder" 1004. The title page of this copy is supplied in facsimile. The remaining 36 pages of Tully's tortured life are original and in very good condition, showing only light, even tanning. A $1500-$2000 pamphlet complete. This copy priced accordingly.. 36 pp.
