Description
Portland [Maine]: J. Chace, Jr. & Co.; Sanborn & Carter, 55 Exchange Street; Bailey & Noyes, 56 and 58 Exchange Street, 1869. Cloth. Very good. Printed by B. Thurston, Steam Book, Job, and Card Printer, Proprietor of Commercial News Room, Publisher of "Portland Price-Current" and "Maine Teacher," 79 Middle Street, Portland. 8vo; 344pp; blind-stamped brown cloth over board, gilt-stamped lettering on spine; pink printed endpapers with advertisements; ownership in neat pen on title page; wear to boards, sunning to spine with fading of lettering; very good. An interesting look at Maine in the mid-19th century. No publishing date, but the Sunday School Statistics are dated June 1869 from the Sabbath School Teachers' Convention and the Statistics of Maine are from the year 1860. Statistics and advertisements by county and town give a glimpse of the state's business climate post-Civil War.
