Garlick worked as a stone mason and blacksmith to support himself and eventually study medicine to become a surgeon. He was noted for his particular skill in nascent the field of plastic surgery (!). He also manufactured surgical tools specifically designed for his operations. The book offered here was based on years of experimentation. It is the first book in the USA on aquaculture, utilizing American species. The binding design has a large blind stamped impression of a large mouth or black bass on the front cover (did the author manufacture the plates for impressing it?).
