[WOMAN AUTHOR]. 16mo (6 1/8" x 4 1/8"); xxiv, 290pp; glazed illustrated cloth over board, bark motif with flowers, lettering in brown; ownership in neat ink on ffep; b&w fp with tissue guard, small b&w illustrations in text; light shelf wear to boards, fraying to head of spine and front hinge; very good plus. Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell (1810-1865) was a British novelist and biographer. Cranford was first published in 1853 after appearing in magazines as a serial, and chronicles the lives of women in a small town, and the return of their brother. Lovely late 19th-century aesthetic binding with a woodland theme.
