New York: Duell, Sloan & Pearce, 1947. First Edition. Cloth. Near fine/very good. First edition of Portrait of the Artist as a Dead Man by Francis Bonnamy.. Octavo, 212pp. Red cloth, title stamped in yellow on spine. Presumed first printing, lacking "first edition" or numerical statement, but also lacking mention of a second printing. Solid, clean text block. Business card with "Sherlock Holmes" illustration attached to front pastedown endpaper. In the publisher's dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, faint sunning to spine, chipping to top edge of back panel, bright illustrations. A scarce work. Francis Bonnamy was the pseudonym of American author Audrey Boyers Walz (1906-1983). Her primary character was detective Peter Utley Shane, who appeared in eight novels from 1931-1951.
