[N.p.]. Other. Square quarto, 10.5" x 11", unpaginated. Book of portraits of unidentified nobles, ladies and gentlemen, and possibly one or two young children. Boards covered with woven textile of unknown fiber(s) (possibly linen and/or silk) with some fraying to edges, front cover (opening right to left) has an affixed paper label which is blank; 24 leaves of individual painted facial portraits in ink, gouache and watercolor, 100 portraits in all. Portraits closely trimmed and mounted on light tan paper, then pasted to leaves. Extensive foxing to leaves throughout, slight foxing affecting the edges of a few portraits, scattered small water blotches or imperfections to portraits but otherwise paintings are clean and clearly detailed with delicate brushstrokes and expressive features. A 19th-century bird's-eye view of New York City and the surrounding region, engraved for The New York Manual of 1868, an annual publication commissioned by the New York State government. Matted and presented in a black wood frame under glass. Dimensions - Print: 16 x 11.5 in., Frame: 23 x 18.75 in. In Very Good condition. Print with light age-toning, scattered foxing, and vertical center fold. Minor surface abrasions and light discoloration. The frame exhibits light surface wear with minimal loss at the edges.
