Description
Ann Arbor, MI: Ardis, 1977. Softcover. First edition; 8 1/4 x 5 1/4; pp. [6], 5-114, [1]; beige wraps, printed and illustrated in black; a bit of age-toning to spine and margins of wraps; minor wear to corners and tips of spine; small rubbed spot to upper corner of ffep (removed bookshop label); small, closed puncture to lower margin of back wrap; very good or better condition.Brodskii began writing poetry in the 1950s and by 1960, after meeting and becoming close friends with several leading figures of the Russian literary scene, including Anna Akhmatova and Dmitrii Bonyshev. In 1963, his poetry was denounced for being anti-Soviet and pro-Jewish, he was accused of parasitism, arrested, and sentenced to hard labor. He would be eventually released and would emigrate, first to Vienna in 1972, and then permanently to Ann Arbor. He would go on to teach at the University of Michigan, Columbia, Queens College, Smith, and Cambridge, and would win the Nobel Prize in 1987. All of his life's work, but for 4 poems, would be published abroad. Arguably one of his most celebrated volumes of verse, "The End of a Wonderful Era" would solidify the widespread of Brodskii being the biggest living poet, writing in his native Russian.

Description
S. l. (San Francisco): The Daily News, 1912. Good. Small broadside, n. d. (beginning of the 20th century); 8 1/2 x 5; off-white stock, printed in black; a bit of light spotting; a small nick to top edge; in about good condition. "The Daily News" - a progressive, four-page "penny paper" - was founded in 1903 by E.W. Scripps. It targeted working-class residents with easy-to-read, short, two-paragraph stories, serving as an alternative to larger, more conservative papers. The current broadside, in the form of a questionaire, with six questions to be answered, signed, and returned to the paper, addressed mostly pressing local, as well as environmental issues, including the selling of Hetch Hetchy power to PG & E, buying the Spring Valley Water Company by the city, voting for alternate candidates in the case of the longest-running Mayor of San Francisco James Rolph's resignation, and so on.

Description
Reno Sweeney. No binding. Fine. [New York]: Reno Sweeney, [1974]. Vintage original 22 x 17" (56 x 43 cm.), unfolded, FINE. The flamboyant and immensely gifted Peter Allen, in a cabaret performance at New York's Reno Sweeney club. Since his third album, Continental American, is referenced on the poster, we can date it from the year of the album's release, 1974. "Peter Allen (born Peter Richard Woolnough; 10 February 1944 -- 18 June 1992) was an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and entertainer, known for his flamboyant stage persona, boundless energy, and lavish costumes. His songs were made popular by many recording artists, including Elkie Brooks, Melissa Manchester and Olivia Newton-John, with one, 'Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)' by Christopher Cross, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1981. In addition to recording many albums, he enjoyed a cabaret and concert career, including appearances at the Radio City Music Hall riding a camel. His patriotic song 'I Still Call Australia Home,' has been used extensively in advertising campaigns, and was added to the National Film and Sound Archive's Sounds of Australia registry in 2013. "Allen was the first husband of Liza Minnelli. They married in 1967, separated in 1969 and were divorced in 1974. He had a long-term partner, model Gregory Connell (1949-1984). They were together from 1974 until Connell's death in 1984. Peter and Greg died from AIDS-related illnesses eight years apart, with Allen becoming one of the first well-known Australians to die from AIDS. Allen remained ambiguous about his sexuality in that he did not pretend to be straight after divorcing Minnelli, but never publicly came out as gay either." (Wikipedia)
