Description
Chicago: The Tribune Company, 1923. Burlap. Near Fine/Near Fine. A genuinely scarce item in 20th century architecture -- a true collector's copy of the 1923 1st edition, with its crisp, superb dustjacket AND the publisher's fragile red cardboard box which houses the thick folio. Tight and Near Fine in its light-brown burlap, with one small former owner bookplate ("Paul H. Humphreys") at the front pastedown. And in a bright --even sparkling-- dustjacket. On the outside of the dustjacket, no flaws to be detected. On the inside of the dustjacket, harmlessly and inconspicuously, even offsetting throughout. The card box has held up nicely as well, with mild fading at the spines and light wear along the edges. (From the dustjacket's rear panel: "The two hundred and sixty designs in this volume constitute an encyclopedia of skyscraper architecture -- THE FIRST BOOK OF ITS KIND. In it are presented the genius, the experience, the ingenuity of the architects of twenty-two nations. The influence of THE TRIBUNE TOWER COMPETITION will be felt for many years. This volume --the first handbook of modern architectural achievement-- is its compendium.").

New York: Simon & Schuster Paperbacks, 2020. 2nd Printing. Trade Paperback. Fine. 5x1x8. Second printing. An exceptional copy. 2020 Trade Paperback. xii, 606 pp. Black-and-white illustrations. As a divided nation plunges into the deepest crisis in its history, Abraham Lincoln boards a train for Washington and his inauguration - an inauguration Southerners have vowed to prevent. Lincoln on the Verge charts these pivotal thirteen days of travel, as Lincoln discovers his power, speaks directly to the public, and sees his country up close. Drawing on new research, this riveting account reveals the president-elect as a work in progress, showing him on the verge of greatness, as he foils an assassination attempt, forges an unbreakable bond with the American people, and overcomes formidable obstacles in order to take his oath of office.
