Very Good
Description
New York, 1912. Very Good. An oddball piece of ephemera, and a peculiar item to have framed, although commemorating a rather significant advance in the protocols of urban mass transit. We can't represent that this ticket was the first transfer ticket ever in New York City, but surely it comes from a time that cost-free transfers were a novelty and had probably not been done for very long before by any transit company. The Third Avenue R.R. Co. was a streetcar company that could trace its roots back to 1853. It came to run streetcars throughout Manhattan and the Bronx, as well as southern Westchester and a part of Queens. The last streetcars in the city disappeared in 1948 when their roots were replaced with buses. The frame is oblong, 12 by 20 cm. The ticket proper is 5 by 13 cm. The ticket has a hole punched indicating 8 PM. The background card and the ticket are heavily browned.

n.p., n.d.. Undated modern reprint. Paperback. Near Fine. (26) unnumbered pages. Black plastic comb binding. 28 cm. Copy of what appear to be front and back covers of "Negro City and Country Directory 1937" on both sides of front cover. OCLC lists several holdings of the directory -- almost all seem to be for a reprint produced in 2000 (perhaps the same reprint we have although we could find nothing to date or identify the publisher of this reprint).
