Watkin was a railroad magnate, being the director of nine railroads in 1881 and trustee of a tenth. He was knighted in 1868 and made a baronet in 1880. He advised on railroads built in India and is probably best-known for building the MS&LR's "London Extension" during the 1890s. An account of the author's visit to India, where he comments about railway and industrial development. Signed by Watkin on the title page: "From E. Watkin, Oct. 1889." Scarce! "With compliments" neatly penned in another hand. Very Good (contents clean & tight with a hint of foxing). $375.00.
